01Overview

Barrier is a Discord bot that protects servers from raids, unauthorized webhooks, and unauthorized bots. This policy explains what information Barrier collects to do that job, why, and how long it's kept. It applies to every server Barrier is added to.

Barrier only ever operates within Discord — there's no separate account, app, or website login involved in using the bot itself.

02What we collect

Barrier collects the minimum it needs to protect a server, and nothing beyond that:

Server settings
Your server's ID, the protection toggles you set (raid / webhook / bot / global blacklist), your chosen whitelisted role ID, and your chosen log channel ID.
Blacklist entries
A user ID and a reason, added by the Barrier team when an account is confirmed to be involved in raiding or abuse. Shared only with servers that opt into the global blacklist feature.
DM contact list
If you send Barrier a direct message, your Discord user ID is recorded so we can deliver service announcements (outages, major changes) to you later.
Message content
Read only in the moment, to recognize commands and to detect raid activity (message bursts, mass pings). Not stored or logged after that moment passes.
Audit log lookups
When a webhook is created or a bot is added, Barrier briefly checks your server's audit log to see who did it. That check isn't stored anywhere.

Barrier does not read or store the content of messages beyond what's described above, does not access your DMs with other people, and does not collect payment information, email addresses, or IP addresses.

03How we use it

  • Server settings are used only to run the protections you've turned on.
  • Blacklist entries are used to automatically flag or remove known bad actors from servers that opt in.
  • The DM contact list is used only to reach you with announcements about Barrier itself — it is not used for anything else, and it is never sold or handed to advertisers.

04Sharing

We don't sell data, and we don't share it with advertisers or unrelated third parties.

Global blacklist is the one exception worth calling out directly. If your server enables it, a blacklisted user's ID and the reason for the listing are shared with every other server that also has it enabled, so they can be actioned there too. This is the one piece of data in Barrier that's visible across servers by design.

05Retention

  • Server settings are kept for as long as Barrier remains in your server, and are deleted if you remove the bot and request deletion (see Contact).
  • Blacklist logs are kept until they're reversed by the Barrier team.
  • DM contacts logs are kept until you ask to be removed.
  • Message content and audit log lookups are never retained; they're evaluated in memory and discarded immediately.

06Your choices

  • Server settings: change or reset anything at any time from the in-server settings panel, or remove Barrier to stop all data collection for that server.
  • DM contact list: contact us (below) to be removed at any time.
  • Blacklist appeals: if you believe you were blacklisted in error, contact us and we'll review it.

07Children's privacy

Discord requires users to be at least 13 years old (or the minimum age in your country). Barrier does not knowingly collect data from anyone younger than that, and relies on Discord's own age requirements to enforce this.

08Security

Server settings and blacklist data are stored on infrastructure we control, with access limited to the Barrier team. No system is perfectly secure, but we don't collect more than we need specifically to reduce what's at risk if something ever went wrong.

09Changes to this policy

If this policy changes in a meaningful way, we'll update the date at the top of this page and announce it through Barrier's own announcement system to servers that have a log channel configured.
